CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Tonight:
A warm front will be moving north and bringing in milder and more humid air through the overnight hours. We could see a few waves of rain or even a rumble of thunder with this warm front. Low will hold steady in the mid to upper 50s and the chance of rain is 50%.
Severe weather risk moves in starting early in the morning. With the mountains being impacted first with heavy rain, wind, lightning, and possible tornadoes. The storms could intensify again as they get closer to I-77 during the middle of the day. As we go into the afternoon the threat shifts east and the heating of the day increases our chances of these storms becoming severe. The ingredients for a few strong tornadoes of EF-2 or higher are possible east of I-77 and into central North Carolinas. High temperatures will climb into the mid-70s and with the south winds, higher dewpoints move in and almost make it muggy.
Thursday night:
Showers and storms move out and much colder air starts to move in with temperatures falling into the 40s. The chance of rain is near 50% with some mountains snow showers possible by Friday morning.
Cloudy early, becoming mostly sunny by the afternoon. High temperatures will be in the mid-50s. Skies should be partly cloudy Friday night. It will be colder with lows in the low to mid-30s.
This weekend:
Mostly sunny Saturday with highs in the low 50s. Look for temperatures to be in the upper 50s Sunday afternoon. The morning lows will be very chilly and frost or freezes are likely each morning this weekend.
